Moth Prayers
by Mario Gerada

Moth Prayer 1

You,
Thyme, covered in morning dew,
my soul blossoming,
enfleshed, florescence,
your gaze, light
flickering within the crevices of my
chest,
in secret
blooming
becoming flesh at the touch of your
hand,
Gardenia scent, at the fall
of sunset's golden shimmer,
the House Martins returned in Mdina
this evening.

Moth Prayer 2

As soon as you opened your eyes at
dawn,
Thyme flowered.

Morning sunrays
played with the window curtain,
striking the walls of my heart
which you demolished.

Yesterday,
at dawn's first light
eternity leaned in,
glimpsed into my heart,
and became a moth.

Moth Prayer 3

Your absence
mist,
the dry soil of my soul,
now craving
the birds of passage
resting in the crevices of my heart.
O Self,

*(If only I had wings to fly).

Moth Prayer 4

Did you know
moth
birthed the butterfly

as its wings
burnt in flame
turning to ash
longing
to see
the light of day.

And as the butterfly sleeps
at night,
she dreams
of moonlight.
