It's time that we, as Christian Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender women and men of God stood up for our place at the table in God's house.
Christians all over the world have recently been encountering this paradox of GLBT people who claim to be Christians.
Let's set the record straight to those who doubt our faith and our sincerity. We are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender AND we are Christians.
believe in God. We believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
We believe in the Holy Spirit who breathes life into our faith.
We believe in the Word of God.
We believe in the power of the blood of Jesus to save us by His sacrifice for our sins.
We believe He loves us and we accept His grace towards us.
We follow His commandments to love Him and love His people, as He commanded because we have seen that this is the true way to serve God. In love.
We serve God...not by scare tactics, not by guilt, not by fear of hell, not by brainwashing, not by shame, not by peer pressure, not by memorizing scripture verses, not by rules and laws...but by LOVE.
We serve God because we love Him, because He loved us first without reservations. Because we have found that His ways of love, bring more love and bring more joy and bring more fruit than guilt or fear ever has.
As Christians, we have been loyal to His service. We are serious about our faith. We pray without ceasing. We reflect on our sin. We are humble. We don't claim to know everything, but we DO know God loves and accepts us.
And we have been around for centuries. As GLBT Christians we have served in your churches, we have preached from your pulpits, we have sat in your pews, we have sung in your choirs and performed music for you, we have tithed our money, we have been loyal, we have been honest, we have been faithful, we have be respectful, we have sacrificed ourselves to your service and yet, the church continues to insult and dismiss our faith. But we are not going away.
It is time for us to say to those in the organized religious world who claim to hold the keys of salvation that...those keys don't belong to you, or your scholars, or your self-righteous leaders...but the keys belongs to Jesus our Savior.
It is in Him that we put our faith.
We are no longer afraid of you. You have revealed your hypocrisies, and self-righteousness and your fruits have shown us that you are wrong.
We are your brothers and sisters. We understand that you want to serve God as best you can and we forgive you for the harm you have done to us, thinking that you are serving God, but you are still wrong.
You have taught your congregations to laugh and disrespect us. You have driven many of our young people to suicide. You said nothing when our people were murdered or died of AIDS telling your congregations that we got what we deserved. You rally others, even those not of your faith, to make laws to block every move we make to become equal. You have tried to make our lives miserable and then have the audacity to turn it around against us saying that the GLBT life is an unhappy life. And you make sure we know how much you disapprove of us, yet claiming you love us.
If this is not bigotry and prejudice in action, what is?
Jesus said, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.' " - Matthew 25:40.
This He said when He spoke of the separation of the sheep and the goats in Matthew 25: 31-46.
Just as the church was wrong about slavery, racial discrimination, interracial marriage, segregation, women's rights...it is wrong now.
you will have to accept us as Jesus has accepted us.
We are not going away.
We have struggled alone with our faith for many years because of what you have tried to do to us, making us out to be evil sinners, many of us suffering for most of our adult lives. But we have all had a collective conversation with each other and have realized that we are not alone. We love God, we are sincere, we have cried, and Jesus has heard our cries and touched our tears and He has taught and comforted us with the Holy Spirit.
Most of us have wrestled with our sexuality, trying to change who we are, and some of us living a lie because of those who told us our sexuality is wrong.
We don't even know why we are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender, BUT WE ARE.
And we know that this has all been for a reason. God is using us to show the world, that the last form of accepted prejudice and bigotry can no longer be accepted. It is a sin.
The same prejudice that Christ taught against through out His ministry still exists...even in the church: Man's inhumanity to man.
people have suffered and we are tired and it is time.
It is time for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Christians to say to the world: We love God and we will stand by our Lord Jesus, and we are blessed to know that He stands by us and we hope in Him to protect us from you.
We are men and women of God and we are not going away, because His love has outshined your prejudice.
